"More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?"
- Jeremiah 17:9
So many hearts. Billions and billions of them beating right now. So many different hearts. There are stout hearts: teachers of truth, defenders, who face tremendous odds head on. Some hearts are on sleeves clamoring to be seen for who they are. Some hearts lay hidden safely away waiting furtively, hoping against hope for someone to bother to seek and find them. Some hearts are large, and soft, and comfortable...where children can come, lay their heads, and feel trust.
There are frozen hearts, hard hearts - stiff with resolve that there shall be no more reaching out for loves that have trampled carelessly on their tender places. There are restless hearts - seeking always for a beauty that eludes...a beauty just out of sight and always calling like a siren...hearts that grow weary with traveling so, and desire a port, a harbor. There are hearts that stand like sentinels over the weak and vulnerable like cooling shade in arid, frightening places.
There are broken hearts - hearts that cannot seem to mend - trying to love and live despite their brokenness. There are child hearts that are big, wide, trusting, and sweet...the hearts that we all had once.
So many hearts. Billions and billions of hearts beating..some tortured, some beyond remedy. Who can understand them all? And Jesus says, I THE LORD! I UNDERSTAND THEM ALL. I thank the stout and fill them with the zeal I carry for the Father, I quiet the clamorous hearts with kind eyes that see them, I seek the hiding hearts and find them there wherever they have cleverly hidden; for I know all the hiding places of the human heart. I smile upon those mother hearts so big and soft - so like my own. I pity the frozen and stone hearts and hold them close to warm them with hope. I journey with the restless hearts and gently steer their ships for home. I give strength to my sentinels, and the broken hearts I carry tenderly in my own. I lift up the child's hearts - these hearts of my creation. The sweet and innocent hearts that inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
He holds us all. And Jesus seems to whisper all over the world in billions of hearts....I know you! For I have a heart like yours. Come to me blessed of my Father and be LOVED by a heart that KNOWS your own.
